These five short guides explain how ServaVid handles Snapchat stories, highlights, Spotlight and audio — plus the limits you should know before downloading. They are written for public content you own or have permission to save.
1. How to download a Snapchat story with audio
A public Snapchat story is a sequence of snaps published by an account, usually within the last 24 hours. Story videos normally include the audio recorded with the snap or added in the app. ServaVid retrieves the version Snapchat serves to the web and keeps its audio track — it does not mute the video or re-encode it.
- Copy the profile link. Open the public profile in Snapchat or a browser and copy its URL, for example
snapchat.com/@username. A bare@usernamealso works. - Paste it into ServaVid. Put the link in the field on the home page and press Download. The tool reads the public page and lists the available snaps.
- Preview and download. Select a clip to preview it, then use the download button. The MP4 goes to your device's Downloads folder or Files app.
If a video was uploaded without sound, the downloaded file will also be silent. That is not a bug: there is no audio track to preserve. Please only download stories you own or have permission to save.
2. Story vs highlights vs Spotlight: what can you download?
Snapchat uses several public formats, and they behave differently when downloaded:
- Story: the recent sequence at the top of a public profile. It usually contains videos and photos, and is available only while the story is active. Story media is generally clean and does not include a Snapchat watermark.
- Highlight: a saved collection pinned to a profile. Highlights can contain many snaps and remain available after the original story expires. ServaVid shows each highlight collection as a separate group.
- Spotlight: Snapchat's public short-video feed. A Spotlight page usually exposes one clip. Be aware that the public Spotlight sharing version often includes a moving Snapchat watermark and the creator's @username embedded in the video.
- Direct MP4 or image link: a file hosted on Snapchat's CDN. ServaVid can resolve it when the host is on the supported allowlist.
The practical takeaway: if you need a clean file, prefer the story or highlight version when the same clip exists there. For a Spotlight-only clip, the original file belongs to its creator and may not be publicly available without the watermark.
3. Snapchat video download on iPhone and Android
ServaVid works in the browser, so you do not need to install an app or sign in. The steps are the same on both platforms, but the file lands in a different place.
iPhone (Safari or Chrome)
- Copy the public Snapchat link in the Snapchat app: tap Share, then Copy Link.
- Open ServaVid in Safari, paste the link and tap Download.
- Choose a clip and tap the download button. Safari saves the MP4 to the Files app (usually Downloads).
- Open Files, tap the video, then Save to Photos if you want it in your camera roll.
Android (Chrome)
- Copy the link from Snapchat or Chrome.
- Paste it into ServaVid and resolve it.
- Tap download; Chrome saves the file to Downloads. A notification may ask you to open or share it.
If a download appears to do nothing, check your browser's download notification or the Files/Downloads app. Some browsers block multiple automatic downloads; open the clip preview and use its own download button instead.
4. Why a Snapchat link doesn't work
ServaVid only reads public pages. If a link fails, the cause is usually one of these:
- The account is private. Private profiles, friends-only stories and restricted content are not accessible, and we do not try to bypass them.
- The story expired. Snapchat stories disappear after their active window. A link may still exist but return no snaps.
- The content was deleted or the account changed. Removed posts and renamed accounts can break old links.
- Region restrictions. Some content is not available in every country; the page may return an error where you are.
- Rate limiting or a temporary block. Snapchat may slow or block requests from a network. Wait a few minutes and try again.
- Unsupported link type. Chats, private messages, memories, lenses and internal app links are not supported.
Try a different public profile to confirm the tool is working, then retry the original link. If the issue persists, send us the public URL through the contact page — but never send your password or login codes.
5. Copyright, privacy and responsible downloading
Downloading a public video is not the same as owning it. The person who created the video usually owns the copyright, even when the post is public. Before you download, ask yourself:
- Do I own this content, or do I have the creator's permission?
- Will I use it in a way that is allowed — personal archive, approved repost, commentary or education?
- Am I respecting the privacy of people who appear in the video?
- Am I complying with Snapchat's terms and local law?
Do not use ServaVid to access private accounts, harass anyone, dox someone, or redistribute content without permission. Do not remove creator attribution to pass someone else's work off as your own. If you are a rights holder and believe a link should not be resolvable, see the copyright section in our Terms & Disclaimer.
